As an oral medication, Clomid, clomiphene citrate, Serophene, is used for the treatment of infertility.
|

Clomiphene causes the pituitary gland to release hormones needed to stimulate ovulation (the release of an egg from the ovary), is a non-steroidal fertility medicine.
|
|
Clomiphene is used to cause ovulation in women with certain medical conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome that prevent naturally occurring ovulation.
|
|
If you are pregnant, or you have abnormal vaginal bleeding, liver disease, an uncontrolled adrenal gland or thyroid disorder, an ovarian cyst unrelated to polycystic ovary syndrome, do not use Clomifene Citrate Clomid.
|

The most common cause of anovulation is polycystic ovarian syndrome, PCOS. Women who do not ovulate without drugs are said to have a condition called anovulation.

Clomid is often given to try to induce ovulation in women that do not develop and release an egg (ovulate) on their own.

Clomifene citrate is used in some cases of unexplained infertility, and is used for the treatment for ovulation disorders caused by problems such as polycystic ovaries or polycystic ovary syndrome, also used on its own or in combination with another drug called metformin, which you take daily in several doses.

Clomifene Citrate blocks the effect of the hormone oestrogen in your body, tricks your body into bumping up levels of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinising hormone (LH) that are essential for ovulation.

FSH causes the eggs in your ovaries to ripen, ready for release. LH triggers the release of one or more mature eggs from the ovary follicles. The egg or eggs then move down into one of your fallopian tubes. |
