What is Arimidex ?
Arimidex (Anastrozole) lowers estrogen levels in postmenopausal women, which may slow the growth of certain types of breast tumors that need estrogen to grow in the body.
Arimidex is used to treat breast cancer in postmenopausal women. It is often given to women whose cancer has progressed even after taking tamoxifen (Nolvadex, Soltamox).
Arimidex may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
What is Arimidex Used for ?
1. This medication is used to treat breast cancer in women who have gone through "the change of life" (menopause).
2. Anastrozole works by lowering estrogen hormone levels to help shrink tumors and slow their growth.
How should I take Arimidex?
Arimidex is usually taken once per day. Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
You may take Arimidex with or without food.
You may need to keep taking this medication for up to 5 years. Follow your doctor's instructions.
Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
How to use Arimidex ?
Take this medication by mouth with or without food, usually once a day, or as directed by your doctor.
Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. Remember to use it at the same time each day.
Do not increase your dose or take this medication more often without your doctor's approval. Your condition will not improve any faster and the risk of serious side effects may be increased.
Since this drug can be absorbed through the skin, women who are pregnant or who may become pregnant should not handle or break the tablets of this medication.
What should i do Before taking this Arimidex ?
To make sure Arimidex is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have:

Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or may become pregnant. Use effective birth control if you are not past menopause, and tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant during treatment.
It is not known whether anastrozole passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. You should not breast-feed while you are using Arimidex.
|Osteoporosis or low bone mineral densit||
Arimidex can decrease bone mineral density, which may increase your risk of developing osteoporosis. Your bone mineral density may need to be tested before and during treatment with anastrozole.

You should not use Arimidex if you are allergic to anastrozole, Arimidex is not for use in men or children.
Is Arimidex right for you?
If you've been diagnosed with hormone receptor-positive (HR+) early breast cancer, you and your doctor may be discussing treatment options for reducing the risk of recurrence. Only your doctor can decide if Arimidex is right for you.
Side Effects :
In advanced breast cancer trials, the most common side effects seen with ARIMIDEX versus tamoxifen include hot flashes, nausea, decreased energy and weakness, pain, back pain, headache, bone pain, increased cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, and swelling of arms and legs. Joint pain/stiffness has been reported in association with the use of ARIMIDEX .
